Equipping Women to Lead with Integrity,
Courage, and Collective Power
Where do senior African women in public service go when leadership feels isolating? For many, it can be a very lonely journey but the Amujae Initiative, supported by Busara Africa, is creating the space they need to connect, reflect, and grow.
Busara Africa supported the fourth cohort of the Amujae Initiative, the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential (EJS) Center’s flagship programme empowering women to pursue leadership at the highest levels of public service. This engagement culminated in a Leadership Forum on 3–4 June 2025 in Marrakech, Morocco, held alongside the Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend. The Forum provided a structured space for reflection, dialogue, and peer learning, where participants explored trust, accountability, collaboration, and the distinct challenges of women’s leadership, including navigating the “glass cliff”.
Through plenaries, regional dialogue, alumni panels, and intimate peer sessions, participants strengthened their strategic clarity, built networks of support, and translated insights into actionable commitments. Leaders left better equipped to lead with integrity, champion inclusion, and leverage collective influence—reaffirming that women’s leadership is about purposeful, grounded action that shapes institutions and Africa’s future.
