
Strengthening organisational capability
to deliver strategic impact
WACSI, a regional NGO supporting civil society organisations in West Africa, is midway through implementing its 2023–2027 strategy. To ensure the organisation’s structure, culture, and leadership could support its evolving priorities, Busara Africa was contracted to facilitate a process to strengthen organisational alignment and readiness..
Through a combination of diagnostic exercises, staff interviews, focus group discussions, and retreats, Busara Africa helped the organisation to examine its organisational effectiveness, uncover structural misalignments, and create a shared understanding of the leadership required to navigate change. The interventions included an all-staff retreat and focused leadership sessions that encouraged reflection, dialogue, and co-creation of solutions. Participants explored what it means to lead together, clarified roles, and defined behaviours that will drive trust, accountability, and effective collaboration across the organisation.

The process was anchored in Busara Africa’s DAMAN organisational culture framework, which supports organisations to intentionally shape culture across five (5) dimensions: Define, Assess, Model, Attract, and Nurture. This approach helped WACSI leaders move from clarity of intent to practical action, ensuring that desired behaviours and cultural norms are reinforced in day-to-day operations. Staff reflected on the leadership required during periods of change, identified priority behaviours to Start, Stop, and Continue, and discussed structures and processes to embed these changes sustainably.
Busara Africa’s facilitation helped WACSI create a foundation for stronger leadership, clearer structures, and a cohesive culture, critical enablers for delivering on the organisation’s mission and achieving strategic impact.
