Busara facilitated a Leadership Masterclass for the Women in Insurance Network of Ghana (WING), held on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Taaka Awori, the CEO/Founder of Busara Africa shared on redefining leadership, the keys to success for women leaders, building emotional intelligence, and mastering performance management to empower women in their professional journeys.
The journey of leadership was dissected into three crucial aspects: leading oneself with emotional intelligence, leading others by managing performance, and rethinking the very definition of leadership.
The masterclass kicked off with an exploration of leadership. The session challenged participants to view leadership not as a title or position but as a verb—something that you do. The presentation underscored the importance of distinguishing leadership from management, emphasizing that leadership is a skill that can be learned. A significant portion of the masterclass was dedicated to emotional intelligence—a key factor in effective leadership. Participants engaged in activities to identify behaviours reflecting high and low emotional intelligence in their workplaces. The masterclass concluded with insights into leading others, focusing on delivering results and holding individuals accountable. The four stages of the performance management cycle were also discussed, providing practical strategies for enhancing leadership effectiveness.
The event wasn’t just a one-way communication; participants actively engaged in group activities and discussions. They assessed themselves on the four keys for success, shared insights with partners, and discussed performance management challenges and strategies.
The Leadership Masterclass equipped the participants with practical tools to navigate their professional journeys. As they carry the knowledge gained from this masterclass into their respective roles, the ripple effects of this empowering initiative are expected to reshape the landscape of women in leadership within the insurance sector.
